The Lost of Moral Sensitivity (Ephesians 4:19)

Honing in on verse 19:

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

Our heart, being sinful, is prone to all kinds of self-deception.

When we first commit a particular form of sin, at first, we feel guilty and our conscience disturbs us.

We are truly disturbed by it with feeling of remorse and guilt.

But commit that particular type of sin again, it gets easier and easier to break the Law of the Lord every time it is committed.

Isn't it true?

As fallen sinners, we are amazingly 'rational'; our minds fight our conscience and every type of sin we commit our mind work over time and tries to justify that it is okay; then it is even "right"!

Thus, we lose our sensitivity to our Conscience, and more importantly to what God wants and does not want and put ourselves at mortal danger.

With a moral boundary removed, the boundary of what is right and wrong gets pushed further.

In light of Verse 19, sinners can "give themselves over" (literally in the Greek, "abandon themselves") to further indulge in sin and an UNCONTROLABLE hunger for sinful satisfaction.

Yet the nature of sin makes one being 'satisfied' in sin impossible: You always want more.

Hence, you are no longer in control but your sin is the one driving you; you gave yourself up to sin.

THus, as the end of Verse 19 shows, one will "indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

What then, shall we do knowing this truth from God's perspective?

  1. We need to be warned that each and EVERY Sin IS DANGEROUS; Not only is it offending to God, but it damages the sensitivity of our moral conscience and open us up to further forms of sin.
  2. We need to guard our mind

Being totally depraved (Romans 3:23, Romans 3:10), we know the danger of how our mind is involved in sin and how it works to rationalize and justify sin; We need tobe careful not only of our physcial behavior that man sees externally but our internal thoughts that others do not readily see as well.

We need to be TRANSFORMED and revived

Knowing the danger of Sin tainting our mind, we need our minds transformed and renewed as Romans 12:2 declare:

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Our mind has to dwell with His Word, His promises and His Commands for:

The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
(Psalms 19:7)

If you do not know Jesus, this would be impossible; Repent of your sins, and Allow JESUS TO BE YOUR LORD (in control) and SAVIOR (who died for your sins so God would not punish you eternally); this is the beginning of a new life if you come to Christ. Trust in Him, and His Word and the Power against Sin from God would reside in you and lead you to Victory. Read the Bible daily.
